Today is the first day

of the rest of my life.

Open and free, I dance.

Today is the first day

I grasp opportunity.

Joyful and light, I dance.

Possibility everywhere;

openness in my heart;

the thrilling winds

of travel blowing through.

Today is the first day

I come home to myself.

Light and free, I go.

We are often told to seize each day; to live our lives to their fullest. So many times we hear that we only have one life or one chance to pursue our dreams.

We hear this so many times that often it falls on deaf ears. We take advantage of the minutes and the hours that we have, thinking, "I'll seize it tomorrow".

I won't tell you the ominous, "But what if there was no tomorrow?" I find this doesn't wake anyone up. Instead, I ask--

What about right now? Is this the best you can do? I don't mean effort. I don't mean work harder. I mean--are you living the life you dreamed of living right now at this moment?

What would it take for you to feel the freedom of living the life you want?

Sometimes the answer is quick and simple. Sometimes we are so far from our dreams or ourselves that we don't even know how to answer the question, "What do I want". Whereever you are on that spectrum, just feel it. Imagine what freedom would feel like for you in this moment.

I love asking myself, "What do you want freedom to feel like?" Or, "What do you want joy to feel like?" The best part about this is not only do I get to discover parts of myself, but I also get to feel those desired feelings right now. It's so simple and strips away the anxiety of the moment.

But how does this allow us to "seize the day?" I've come to realize that freedom and living a life pursuing your dreams isn't about the big moments. It's not about the lofty goals fulfilled. It's about each individual moment. Just feeling the way I want to feel is a dream come true. It's contrary to the status quo. Each of those moments is one important step that needs to be taken in order to realize our dreams.

So why not start now? Inhale, exhale. You got this.
